A new family dispute has emerged following the death of actress Hayden Panettiere, with her parents reportedly unable to agree on who should receive some of their daughter’s personal belongings.
The disagreement centers on several stud earrings Hayden was wearing when she died at the age of 36. The jewelry was removed during the examination of her body and placed inside a sealed purple plastic bag before being handed over to a senior deputy for safekeeping.
Authorities later contacted Hayden’s parents, Alan “Skip” Panettiere and Lesley Vogel, to inform them that the earrings had been recovered. According to the coroner’s report, both parents wanted the jewelry.
The problem was that they could not agree on where the earrings should be sent. One wanted the items sent to North Carolina, while the other wanted them sent to California. With no agreement between them, authorities decided not to release the belongings to either parent.
The report made clear that the earrings would remain in official custody until the former couple could reach an agreement about Hayden’s personal effects. It remains unclear whether they have since settled the disagreement.
The situation comes years after Hayden’s parents ended their marriage. Skip and Lesley separated in 2008, and their divorce was finalized in 2016. Despite their separation, both remained connected to their daughter throughout her life.
Hayden’s death has already brought an extremely difficult period for the family. The actress died on August 16, 2026, at the age of 36. She was found unresponsive in Greenville, South Carolina, and her death was later ruled accidental.

The actress had been known around the world for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, as well as appearances in the Scream franchise. Her sudden death left fans and former colleagues mourning a star whose career had begun when she was still a child.
A celebration of Hayden’s life was held in Malibu on September 19. Her father attended the gathering, while her mother was reportedly absent. The family had already faced another devastating loss in 2023, when Hayden’s younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, died at the age of 28.
Now, attention has turned to something much smaller but deeply personal: the earrings Hayden was wearing when her life came to an end.
For the moment, the jewelry remains secured by authorities. Until Hayden’s parents agree on what should happen to the items, neither will receive them.
