The birth of their mother Oksana began prematurely. She gave birth to her first baby Liana at the 26th week of pregnancy, weighing only 900 grams. And three months later, Liana’s sister, little Léonie, was born.
According to Oksana’s doctor, after the birth of the first baby, the cervix closed, so the other baby remained in the mother’s womb.
And then the contractions stopped, and the doctors decided that the mother could give birth to her second daughter on the due date.
“We only took in the second little one to mature further in the womb,” said Dr. Uwe Schellenberger from Holweide Hospital in Cologne.
As a result, after 97 days, Oksana gave birth to Liana’s sister Leoni, weighing 3.6 kilograms.
“This is not the first time this has happened in our hospital. Here the twins have already appeared on different days, but the difference of 97 days is a record both for us and for all world medicine, ”said the doctor.
The previous record belongs to an Irish woman who gave birth to twins in 2012, 87 days apart.
Liana, who was born first, spent several weeks in a special unit for premature infants, where she was breastfed and regained her strength. And when she got stronger, she was sent home.
Now the two little ones are already at home, they are developing well and gaining weight, and each of them already weighs about 5.5 kilograms.
