The Pullan family is the largest albino family in the world. Five cubs inherited genes for albinism from their parents. The Pullan cubs face hostility every day due to the country’s hostile attitude towards albinos.
Rosetauri and Mani Pulan have been married for over 20 years. They are albinos, so five of their young have inherited the albinism genes – Shankar, 24, Ramkishan, 19, Vijay, 25, Deepa, 21 and Pooja, 18.
According to Mani, her family has to deal with prejudice and hostility on a daily basis. A large family lives in a small one-room apartment in Delhi.
Pulan family members live together and support each other. They have a dream: to be recognized worldwide as the largest albino family in the world.
Rosetauri and Money married in 1983. It was traditional Indian matchmaking: the bride and groom only met at the wedding. However, now the couple are very friendly and Mani describes the family’s albinism as “a gift from God”.
According to the Pulan family, most of the difficulties and misunderstandings stem from the fact that no one believes that they were born and raised in India.
Sisters Pooja and Deepa are the youngest of the albino family. The eldest son, Vijay, 25, wants his wife to be albino too. Now he is saving money for the wedding.
