If you are a senior member of the royal family, there is arguably no better role model than the late Queen Elizabeth II. As the longest-reigning monarch in British history, her experience was invaluable, and for many years, the Princess of Wales looked up to her example.
Kate Middleton has always admired Queen Elizabeth II’s remarkable social skills. Year after year, the Queen would address thousands of people and shine at major events. Considering how little time she usually had to interact with each individual, her ability to quickly “connect” with people in such brief encounters was truly impressive.

“She was magnetic. She had the most fantastic smile, and I think that even when the Queen said nothing and simply smiled, it brought enormous joy and pleasure to everyone,” Kate said.
Following the Queen’s example, the Princess of Wales has earned a reputation as a warm and approachable figure, someone easy to connect with during public engagements. She approaches things a little differently than the late monarch, often seen bending down or kneeling to interact with children, or taking selfies with members of the public.

Queen Elizabeth’s guiding approach also helped her granddaughter, Princess Charlotte, feel more comfortable in important social situations. It may have allowed Charlotte to be herself and let her natural charisma shine through. Reflecting on a visit to Leicester without Prince William, Kate said that Her Majesty “was incredibly supportive.”
“The fact that she took the time to make sure I was happy, and that I was cared for on that occasion—something that was probably a very small part of everything she did—just shows how genuinely caring she was,” the Princess recalled.
