A woman from the United Kingdom who recently celebrated her 101st birthday has opened up about the secrets behind her remarkable longevity — and among them is a very special drink she has enjoyed every single day for decades.
Joyce Linas, who reached the incredible age of 101 at the end of November, lives in the picturesque town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Her life story spans more than a century of hard work, family traditions, and cherished memories.

In her youth, Joyce helped on her parents’ farm, where she learned the value of discipline and resilience. Later, she took her first job at a shoe factory, gaining experience in a fast-paced working environment. Her career eventually led her to a toy factory, where she not only found her passion but also earned the title of master craftswoman. She continued working there for many years until she retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and craftsmanship.
But when asked about the secret to her long and vibrant life, Joyce doesn’t mention work, philosophy, or unusual diets. Instead, she smiles and talks about something simple: a daily glass of lemonade. She believes wholeheartedly that this refreshing drink has helped her stay energetic and spirited well into her second century.

Joyce fondly recalls that her mother used to make homemade lemonade, a drink she remembers with remarkable clarity even now.
“My mother made lemonade. I can still remember the taste perfectly,” she said. “Ever since then, I have a glass every single day.” She noted that she especially prefers clear varieties of lemonade, which remind her of her mother’s recipe.
Even at 101, Joyce’s enthusiasm for life is impressive. She remains active and engaged, enjoying a wide range of hobbies: dancing, knitting, playing bingo, and even ironing — an activity most people much younger than her would happily skip. Her cheerful attitude and lively interests continue to inspire both her family and caregivers.
To celebrate her milestone birthday, her two children and several close friends visited her at the care home where she currently lives. The staff organized a warm and festive event for her, for which Joyce expressed heartfelt gratitude.
And despite already having lived through more than a century of memories, Joyce is certainly not done making new ones. With a twinkle in her eye, she revealed her plans for her next birthday:
“When I turn 102, I definitely want to go on a hot-air balloon ride,” she said.
Her determination, optimism, and zest for life serve as a powerful reminder that age is just a number — and that sometimes, the simplest pleasures, like a daily glass of lemonade, can carry us through a lifetime.
