Just last month, 2-year-old Nicolly Pereira experienced a life-changing miracle — she looked into her mother’s eyes for the very first time. Born blind and initially believed to be deaf, the Brazilian toddler’s world transformed after a successful surgery brought both her sight and hearing to life.
The touching moment happened when Nicolly gently pressed her forehead to her mom’s, smiling as their eyes met.
“The only word I can use to describe that feeling is ‘God,’” said 26-year-old Daiana Pereira, Nicolly’s mother, in an interview with the Miami Herald. “My daughter is now living proof that miracles do happen.”

Nicolly had been diagnosed with pediatric glaucoma, a rare disorder that causes pressure to build inside the eyes, often resulting in blindness. After several unsuccessful surgeries in Brazil, Daiana turned to Facebook to share their heartbreaking journey.
The post gained widespread attention, and a compassionate reader from Miami reached out to two local charities. With their help, over $17,000 was raised to cover the cost of a critical surgery at Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
On March 17, after a three-hour procedure, Nicolly’s vision was restored.
“It was overwhelming,” said Dr. Alana Grajewski, who performed the operation. “She looked at her mother, and you could tell she recognized her. That moment was truly priceless.”

Before coming to the U.S., Nicolly had been presumed to be both blind and deaf. But doctors at the University of Miami discovered fluid in her inner ears — and remarkably, that same day, her hearing was restored as well.
Today, Nicolly can see, hear, and even sing.
This heartwarming outcome was made possible by the compassion of many. A 10-year-old boy donated his racing prize to help fund airfare for the family. Carlos and Maria Fiallo — parents who had tragically lost their 17-year-old son in a car accident — raised $15,000 to help cover the surgery.
“I felt called to help her,” said Maria. “We lost our son Kevin far too soon, but now I see his light shining through her eyes.”
