Not only Buckingham Palace staff but also Vogue editors have spoken about Meghan Markle’s difficult personality. Actress Brooke Shields, too, was less than impressed with Prince Harry’s wife.
Brooke recalled taking part in a panel discussion for International Women’s Day in Texas in 2024, where Meghan Markle was also a guest. According to Brooke, the Duchess of Sussex came across as overly serious and irritable.
The actress admitted she felt compelled to interrupt Meghan during her speech, as the atmosphere had become tense. Meghan was recounting, once again, how she began fighting sexism at the age of 11, referring to the well-known story of how she wrote to a soap company after seeing an ad that claimed: “Mothers all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.”
It’s a story the Duchess has repeated in many interviews over the years, and, unsurprisingly, people have grown tired of hearing the same thing.
“It was just too much,” Brooke explained. “And I thought, people don’t want to sit here for 45 minutes listening to someone talk about how important or serious they are. I said, ‘Excuse me, I’m really sorry. I have to interrupt for just a minute.’ I tried not to be rude, but I wanted to lighten the mood—it had all gotten way too intense.”

Reports about Meghan Markle’s strong-willed and demanding nature have come from both palace insiders and media professionals. Brooke Shields, having experienced it firsthand, echoed similar sentiments.
“It was in front of thousands of people. It was wild,” Brooke said. “And then she just went, ‘Oh, okay.’ And I thought, let’s just have some fun.”
The actress added that she had no intention of offending Meghan—but believes the Duchess likely took it personally.
