From Beauty to Blindness? How One Tattoo Nearly Cost Her Sight

An Australian tattoo model named Amber Luke became known as the “Blue-Eyed White Dragon” due to her unusual tattoos—including ones inked directly onto her eyeballs. The risky procedure could have cost her her eyesight, but Amber wasn’t deterred by the danger.

After having bright blue ink injected into her eyeballs, Amber went blind for three weeks. She describes the experience as “the most brutal and torturous agony” she’s ever endured. Fortunately, her vision gradually returned—and the tattoo model was thrilled with the result. Her eyes are now a vivid turquoise color.

In addition to her eye tattoos, Amber’s body is covered in ink. She has made numerous changes to her “default appearance”—including plastic surgery, facial and lip fillers, and a tongue-splitting procedure. Her body also features extensive piercings and skin stretches. Amber estimates that she’s spent around $250,000 on her transformation.

She believes every penny was worth it. Amber frequently showcases her body on social media and collaborates with various brands. Recently, she revealed how much her appearance has changed over the last 12 years. In the first photo of a comparison series she titled “The Evolution of the Blue-Eyed White Dragon,” she shows herself before any tattoos or cosmetic procedures. A few years ago, she even dyed her hair turquoise to match her eyes—but has since returned to her natural blonde.

“The first photo was taken when I was 17—12 years ago,” she captioned the images. “Twelve consistent years of dedication, blood, tears, and allowing myself to push my boundaries.” According to Google, Amber is considered the most tattooed model in Australia—with 98% of her body covered in ink. “Despite the highs and lows of my life and career, I remain grateful,” she says.

Public opinion on Amber’s transformation is divided. Many support her journey of self-expression: “I’m so proud of you, doll—your progress is so inspiring,” one commenter wrote, encouraging her to keep doing whatever makes her happy. Others, however, question whether such drastic changes are a sign of true happiness. Some believe Amber looked stunning before the modifications and worry that her transformation reflects deeper emotional struggles.

According to the Guinness World Records, the most tattooed woman in the world is Charlotte Guttenberg of Florida (USA), whose body is 98.75% covered in ink. Her transformation began after the death of her husband, who had opposed her interest in body art.
