At 87, Susan Hampshire is one of the most renowned actresses in the UK, but fame didn’t protect her when she was robbed in the London Underground.
The Forsyte Saga star and three-time Emmy winner revealed that her money and mobile phone were stolen. She expressed her frustration, saying, “I was robbed in the subway recently. I should have hidden my money in my bra, because I lost both my phone and wallet.”
Robbery statistics in the London Underground have been steadily increasing since 2016, with 2023 being the worst year in history due to a rise in thefts.
In the past decade, Hampshire has been focused on caring for her second husband, Sir Eddie Kulukundis, who battled Alzheimer’s disease for 14 years before passing away in 2021. The actress was married to the theatrical impresario and philanthropist for 40 years. She has a son, film producer Christopher Grange-Deferr, from her first marriage to French director Pierre Grange-Deferr.
In a similar vein, Britney Spears recently reported that all her jewelry was stolen from her Los Angeles home. The 42-year-old pop star even lost a necklace that she had worn since childhood. Following the theft, she announced she would no longer be purchasing jewelry.
Russian celebrities have also been frequent targets of robberies. 75-year-old Vyacheslav Gordeev, artistic director of the “Russian Ballet,” lost 5 million rubles, which he had been saving for a rainy day in both rubles and foreign currency, when thieves broke into his apartment in Korolev.
