One of Hollywood’s most successful non-legacy stars, Lily-Rose Depp, shared rare insights into her life with her brother Jack and famous parents, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis. Lily-Rose explained how her latest role in the vampire film Nosferatu helped her in her family relationships, particularly with her younger brother.
Jack, 22, prefers to stay out of the spotlight, unlike his famous family. However, Lily-Rose calls him “the coolest person” and says he fully supported her involvement in the project. “This role was important to me because my brother and I were fans of Dracula when we were kids,” Lily-Rose recalled. She added that Jack even dressed up as Dracula for school events.
“I thought, if I get this role, my brother will finally think I’m cool,” Lily-Rose said, acknowledging the typical dynamic between older and younger siblings — when you’re young, the younger sibling looks up to you, but as adults, the roles reverse. “Now I think he’s cool, and he responds, ‘Sorry, I’m busy,'” she joked, referring to her connection with the young star.
The 27-year-old actress also spoke about her close relationship with her parents. She expressed gratitude for the way they worked to make her and Jack’s childhood as normal as possible despite the constant moves. “I definitely want to have children, and when that time comes, I’ll take them with me. I grew up that way, and although there were times when I wanted to stay in school and be with friends, I’m grateful for it now,” Lily-Rose confessed.
She explained how thankful she is to her parents for their efforts to create a comfortable environment for her and Jack, even while living in different countries. “I didn’t realize it at the time, but now I understand how much effort my parents put in to make us feel at home, even in unfamiliar places,” she shared.
Johnny Depp has expressed pride in his son’s talents. In a 2014 interview, he praised Jack as a great artist and musician. Unlike Lily-Rose and Johnny, Jack never showed an interest in acting.
Lily-Rose also addressed the criticism that she only landed roles due to her family name. She believes that the approach to the role is what truly matters. “People on the internet care more about your relatives. Maybe a door opens for you, but after that, you have to work hard,” she said.
After the failed series The Idol, where Lily-Rose starred alongside Jennie from BLACKPINK and The Weeknd, she is experiencing a career renaissance. Critics have already praised her work in Nosferatu. Depp senior has frequently expressed his respect for his daughter’s determination to challenge herself.
