The girl escaped from the expensive life in the city and built herself a tiny house of 13.5 m²

Leigh Pera, a geographer and builder by vocation, was tired of the high cost of living in Washington, D.C. This led her to create her own cozy home measuring only 140 square feet, far from the bustle of the city.

Despite having no experience with tools since childhood, Lee re-learned the craft as she did most of the work herself.

In addition to the structure of the house, Lee also created many of the furniture pieces, as standard options did not fit the dimensions. Everything from the cabinets to the kitchen cabinets were created by her skilled hands.

The interior is decorated in a unique style. At first, Lee drew inspiration from Scandinavian aesthetics, but then decided to add a personal touch, making the space bright and unique. Wallpaper with a botanical pattern, bright colors and textures give the house personality, and a cozy attic bedroom provides privacy.

“I especially love my bedroom. It’s cozy but not overwhelming, thanks to the multiple windows. Waking up and seeing the tree branches, then looking down into the living room and knowing that I created all of this with my own hands is a special feeling,” says Lee.

Despite its modest size, Lee’s home has everything you need for comfort: a living room, kitchen, bedroom, workspace, and even a bathroom. However, as she admits, to keep the house from looking cluttered, things need to be constantly put away.

Lee was one of the pioneers of the tiny home movement and now travels around the world sharing her experiences and encouraging people to live green and frugal lives.
