How we transformed an old shabby chair beyond recognition. I can’t stop admiring it: photos

When I looked at this chair, I realized that although it was in decent condition, the upholstery left much to be desired. Probably, the domestic cats did not pass by. But we decided to give this chair a new life.

First of all, we took it apart and carefully removed the old fabric, because we will need it.

Next, we removed the old foam rubber and belts, taking photos of all the steps so that we would know how to put everything back in place later.

To my surprise, the base of the chair was made of natural beech, not the usual pine. All the wooden elements were in good condition, except for one leg, which had a crack. We glued it and left it to dry for a day.

While the leg was drying, we worked on the straps for the base. I used furniture strapping, spending 16 m on it.

Next, using foam rubber and padding polyester, I created the base for the seat. The old fabric served as a template for the new upholstery, to which I added a few centimeters due to the change in the thickness of the foam rubber.

The client chose a fabric with a geometric pattern, which presented its own challenges when working with, especially with the armrests.

After finishing the soft part, we moved on to the wooden elements. We treated them with special means and polished them.

At the next stage, all parts of the chair were tried on, we made sure that they were combined correctly and moved on to the final finishing of the wood, using oil with wax in a walnut shade.

Having collected all the elements together, we sent the chair to its new place of residence.

And voila! The magnificent chair now looks harmonious in the new interior.

I think we did a great job! What do you think? Wouldn’t you like such a unique present for your birthday?
