Hollywood is in the midst of another scandal: rapper Sean Combs (aka P. Diddy, aka Puff Daddy) is accused of human trafficking, pedophilia, and sexual assault. All of this allegedly happened at his famous parties, where all the celebrities came to hang out — from Leonardo DiCaprio to Kim Kardashian.
The public is waiting for one of the stars to finally speak out, and everyone is especially interested in the comments of Jennifer Lopez, who dated the rapper at the turn of the 90s and 2000s. She has a lot to remember! And while J. Lo is silent, we will tell this story.

Jennifer and P. Diddy began dating in 1999 — he produced her album On the 6. The rapper then once again broke up with Kim Porter, the mother of his son Christian (later, when they got back together, Porter would give birth to two more children), who was only one year old at the time. Lopez had just divorced her first husband, Ojani Noa, and was also open to romantic adventures.

The musical couple quickly became the main characters of the press and the red carpet. Their appearance at the Grammy Awards went down in history, when the Versace dress that J. Lo wore literally “broke” the Internet and inspired the creation of image search.

“I knew that this would really be a turning point for her and fashion. But I couldn’t even imagine how big a moment it would be for her,” Sean later recalled.
But there was another moment in their story that could have changed everything in Lopez’s life — and not for the better. On December 27, 1999, a shooting occurred in a New York club on Times Square. Two people — Jennifer Lopez and Sean Combs — fled the scene. They were detained by the police that same night.

In an interview with the New York Post, former NYPD detective Derrick Parker recalled what happened when the singer’s mother, Guadalupe, came to the police station looking for her daughter.
“Her mother was yelling at J. Lo in Spanish, and she was really mad at Jennifer. I heard her say, ‘I told you not to mess with (him),'” the cop recalled.
Lopez was eventually released from custody without charges after spending 14 hours in jail. Lopez’s lawyer said she didn’t know how to use a firearm, and Combs defended his girlfriend by publicly stating that Lopez “had nothing to do with the shooting.” The rapper himself was charged, but later dropped.

By the way, there were rumors that Lopez was the one who brought the gun into the club for him, but, of course, there was no evidence.
After this incident, Jen and Sean were together for almost two more years – they broke up in 2001. Lopez admitted that the reason was Combs’s systematic cheating.
“I cried, I was going crazy, it really turned my whole life upside down. I never caught him [cheating], but I just knew. He’d say he was going to the club for a couple of hours, and then he wouldn’t come back that night. I had to think, do I want to be home with my kids in 10 years and wonder where he is at three in the morning?” the singer shared.

It is noteworthy that Diddy, years later, said that J. Lo was one of the people he loved most in his life. Be that as it may, the exes managed to maintain a fairly friendly relationship, and in 2018 they again stirred up the press by reuniting at a concert in Las Vegas.
But the singer’s mother was on guard – when the host jokingly asked Jennifer on one show if she would return to Diddy, Guadalupe, who was also in the audience, firmly stated: “No Puffy.”
“Lucky that everyone survived,” she added, clearly hinting at that episode with the shooting. Reading the current headlines about Combs, Guadalupe clearly sighs with relief.
Well, Jennifer should be glad that her mother has such intuition – she was distrustful of P. Diddy back in 1999.
