Are the old guys still around? Linkin Park returned the day before — and not just like that, but in a new lineup. The iconic rockers introduced a new frontman — or rather, frontwoman. After the suicide of Chester Bennington in 2017, the band effectively ceased its activities, releasing only reissues of old hits in honor of significant dates and anniversaries. And now, seven years after the tragedy, beloved songs are heard on stage again — now performed by 38-year-old Emily Armstrong, vocalist of the Californian rock band Dead Sara.
At the online concert, Emily sang such classics of the band as “In the End” and “Numb”, the song “Lost”, which was released after Bennington’s death, as well as a new composition called “The Emptiness Machine” – the first single from the upcoming album “From Zero”. The reaction of users to the comeback of the legends was stormy, but by and large, alas, negative.
“The band died with Chester”, “Please don’t”, “In my opinion, they should have just formed a new band. As a Linkin Park fan, I don’t like this. It’s not the same”, “Let’s just acknowledge Chester’s uniqueness and move on”, “This is all great, but she shouldn’t sing his songs”, the band’s fans discuss.
There were some real haters among the commentators. “What a dead cat squeal”, “I love Linkin Park. But this is just bad. Reminds me of Milhouse from “The Simpsons” – just a nasty grinding sound. Someone had to say that”, “Sounds like a fifteen-year-old who has smoked too many cigarettes”, – they say about Emily’s vocals.
It would seem that the singer has no chance to win over her fans, but suddenly heavy artillery came to her defense. Rita Dakota assured in her stories that Chester is “dancing with happiness for his boys on a cloud,” and called on fans to “write something bright and encouraging to the girl.” Well, checkmate, atheist haters!
