In the vast blue expanses of the Pacific Ocean in Central America, an unusual story happened. 27-year-old Josie Poyker chose an unusual path to the birth of her fourth child.
She decided to give birth in full accordance with nature, away from the confines of a hospital room or even her familiar home environment.
Her journey to motherhood has not been without its challenges. The birth of her first child in a hospital was a painful experience, after which the mother decided to seek gentler alternatives.
For her second and third child, Josie chose a midwife-assisted home birth. However, for her last child, she wanted an even more natural and primal experience.
On a secluded beach in Nicaragua, Josie found her refuge. Josie didn’t make this decision spontaneously. She carefully prepared for the event, in tune with the rhythms of nature. “For weeks, I watched the tides.
When it came time to give birth, I knew the beach would be safe for us. Bodhi was born in the sun, at midday, when it was about 95 degrees. We weren’t worried at all about him being cold, and I had no concerns about waterborne infections.
“He is completely healthy. I have done all the necessary tests,” she explained.
Her husband Benny played a key role in the adventure, capturing every moment in photographs and video.
