While Oliver Hammond’s classmates attend boring lessons at an Essex school, he receives an education by traveling the world with his parents.
Teacher Chloe Hammond and her husband Jay decided to pick up their 9-year-old son from school and travel the world in July 2020 and have since traveled to 40 countries as a family.
Chloe and Jay taught their son about the Incas in the ancient city of Machu Picchu and the geography of the Amazon rainforest, and also gave physical education lessons, including snowboarding in Bulgaria, surfing in Costa Rica, paragliding in Turkey, etc.
Often a family will study a subject and then go and experience it for themselves. For example, during a visit to Athens, Chloe and Oliver did a project on the ancient Greeks. They also observed an active volcano in Guatemala after reading about volcanoes together in a book, writes Metro.
To travel, Chloe and Jay started working remotely and sold most of their stuff, but did not regret it at all: after all, they made new friends in different countries and were able to learn a lot from their little one.
Oliver took lessons he will never forget and gained hands-on experience that most kids don’t have.
