Some years ago, a man achieved significant weight loss and won a competition, inspiring many with his transformation. Curious about his journey and how he looks now?
In 2008, Sam Ruhan won the third season of The Biggest Loser, an Australian reality show for overweight people.
Its name (The Biggest Looser) is a pun, as it can be understood as both “loser” and “loser the most.” A cash prize goes to the person who loses the most weight (as a percentage of their body weight) over the course of the show.
Sam was only 19 years old at the time; at the beginning of the show he weighed 154 kg, and by the end he managed to lose 71 kg.
Now 29, he became a firefighter and continues to lead a healthy lifestyle. He recently wrote a post about his transformation over 10 years:
“I wasn’t sure I would write this post. 10 years, however! What a time!
So much has happened—good, bad, in-between. Beautiful and terrible. I will say one thing: I am surrounded by amazing people, and I am immensely grateful to them for that.”
Here is his inspiring story in photographs:
