But one thing was certain — strange noises constantly came from his apartment. Sometimes it sounded like low growls, as if something was scratching the walls. Other times it was a screeching noise — almost like a scream, but not quite human. The nights were the worst: whimpering, repetitive barking that carried on day after day.
