Mother love is the strongest power there is, and Ada Keating, who is 98 years old, is the epitome of this attitude. Ada made the touching choice to move into a nursing home with her 80-year-old son Tom to provide him with the specialized care he needs, which the staff of the institution was unable to adequately deliver.
Ada had worked as a nurse’s assistant her whole life, so Tom needed her experience.
Tom, a former employee of HE Simm who worked as a painter and decorator, went into Moss View Nursing Home in 2016 because he required 24-hour care.
Ada and Tom have a very close friendship; they like spending time together, especially while watching television, and have a routine of saying goodbye.
Tom always looks forward to Ada’s homecoming and gives her a big hug as she leaves for her hair appointment. Tom has never married and has lived much of his life in his mother’s loving care, demonstrating the strength of their unbroken relationship.
“You’re always going to be my child, no matter how old you get,” Ada says with poignancy.
