It was vs what became: how the “dead” bathrooms changed after renovation.

Real examples in three old houses .

Many bathrooms (especially in older houses) cannot be looked at without tears. But you don’t need to do expensive European-quality renovations to breathe new life into your bathroom.

The owners of these apartments turned to designers for help to transform their homes. Let’s see what and how they did.

1. Khrushchev: bathroom with washing machine

Was:

Marina Merenkova was invited by the owners to remodel the bathroom in a tiny Khrushchev building. Initially, instead of a towel dryer, there was a home-made structure made of a cast-iron radiator with a tap, and the toilet practically rested on the washing machine.

Became:

A sink with a flat siphon was placed above the washing machine and the toilet was moved to a more optimal distance. A laundry basket was placed between them, and a heated towel rail was installed on top. We completely changed the tiles and hung a large, aesthetically pleasing mirror to make being in the toilet pleasant.

2. Stalinka: bathroom with bath

Was:

In the original version, the bathroom was not equipped with a washing machine and boiler. There was absolutely no room to turn around – all the equipment was standing end to end.

Became:

Designer Natalya Solo had to expand the space with the help of a corridor and choose a monochromatic color scheme.

3. Old building: remodeling the bathroom

Was:

This bathroom made a depressing impression before the redevelopment. Cramped room, boring beige walls, narrow bathtub and toilet.

Became:

The designers of Mikhail Novinsky’s studio made a radical rearrangement. Instead of one bathroom, there are now two, the walls are lined with gray “hog”, and the interior itself is diluted with blue.
