From a standard one-room apartment we managed to make a full-fledged Euro two-room apartment with an isolated bedroom.
Briefly
Designers from the DSGN HUB studio created a modern, but at the same time very cozy space for the young prima ballerina. The apartment she purchased does not have a large area, but it was necessary to place the main functional areas such as the kitchen and living room, as well as to arrange an isolated bedroom with a large bed. Thanks to competent planning, all wishes were realized.
Details
The developer received a typical one-room apartment – with a separate kitchen, a room and a combined bathroom. The new layout features a bedroom with a window, separated by a partition, a compact kitchen-living room, a dressing room, an entrance hall and a bathroom.
“We believe that in small apartments it is not amalgamation that is more effective, but zoning. Here, each zone has its own atmosphere, so the space seems larger in area. This is due to the fact that the rooms replace each other, and do not merge into one. The hallway has its own color, the bathroom has a different color, the kitchen-living room is separated from the bedroom by a glass partition, so it doesn’t feel like you’re having dinner in the bedroom,” say the designers.
The kitchen received an unusual location due to restrictions. Initially it was at the left window, but it was necessary to place a bedroom there – the kitchen had to be moved. The sink and stove remained partly in the former kitchen area and partly in the corridor area. The refrigerator was moved into the room – this is not prohibited.
“This kitchen became an experiment for everyone – for us, for the carpentry workshop and for the hostess as well. At the same time, all participants in the process rated the experiment as successful. For the housewife, the layout turned out to be experimental, since there is no so-called “work triangle” in the classical sense – for example, the refrigerator was at a distance from the sink and stove. But practice has shown that this did not make the kitchen any less convenient to use. In terms of content, the kitchen is absolutely complete; it has everything a young girl needs,” the designers share.
It is no coincidence that the “Wandering Table” settled in the living room. The space is very small, and the designers needed to make sure that it was alive and changed along with the needs of the owner. The “cone” lamp can be moved after the table, adapting the interior to life scenarios.
“A glass partition between the living room and bedroom is an expensive story, but you need to understand that a high-quality safe partition cannot be cheap. The glass area in our partition is very large, and there are no lintels. It is better to install triplex glass in such partitions. Even if the glass breaks, the fragments remain on a special film,” the designers share.
The forest at the head of the bed is handmade wallpaper. The wallpaper is painted the same color as the walls. The guardian of comfort in the bedroom has become a squirrel, which sits on beautiful trees painted with silver paint.
The customer supported the idea of a glass wardrobe in the bedroom. This decision became possible partly because the apartment has a dressing room in which the bulk of things are stored. A wardrobe with glass fronts is not only a tribute to beauty: the bedroom area is very small, and the depth of the open wardrobe visually adds additional volume to the space.
In the bathroom, they decided not to cover the wall on which the installation is located up to the ceiling, and created interesting lighting. Instead of a bathroom, we chose a construction-style shower with a glass partition.
“The bathroom has a shelf with an integrated washing machine. The doors above the machine have a thin panel; we made these facades from veneer, but in order to save money, the narrow section on the left was made from laminated chipboard. At first glance, it seems that this is an easy way to save money, but in fact this decision requires a lot of effort. The color of the veneer and the color of the chipboard must match one to one. First, the workshop did several paint jobs, but we couldn’t get the color right, so they met us halfway and sent our sample to a special color matching workshop. This whole process took a lot of time,” say the authors of the project.
“The most unusual room in the apartment can be called the hallway. In addition to the rich color of the walls, the floor tiles are interesting, say the designers. — The tiles that we initially included in the project were discontinued. We looked at different alternatives: metlakh tiles did not suit because of the shade of the white base; in cement tiles we were confused by the seams and the lack of clear boundaries between the lines of the design. In the end, we decided to buy black and white porcelain tiles – and drew how it should be cut into small squares and triangles.”
