The area of this small cottage is just over 99 square meters. It is located in Redmond (USA) and is surrounded by an incredibly beautiful garden. The design, which is impressive in its ergonomics, belongs to The Cottage Company, and the design, filled with simple and elegant solutions, was created by Ross Chapin Architects. The cost of the house is 546 thousand dollars, but many design techniques can be implemented at a much lower cost. Owners of miniature cottages take note!
1. Maximum light and air
The house boasts high ceilings and many windows. At the same time, the walls and ceiling are painted white, and nothing interferes with the penetration of natural light into the interior. Thanks to such simple techniques, the space seems much lighter and more spacious.
2. A piece of sky above your head
A small window in the pitched roof above the sitting area adds an element of country romance to the living room. In the evening, you can sit back comfortably in a chair and drink tea, looking at the starry sky above your head.
3. Compact kitchen island
The cooking area in the house is not too large, but functional. There was a place for all the necessary household appliances and spacious cabinets and shelves. In order not to clutter up the space, the authors of the project preferred a compact kitchen island, which also serves as a bar counter. This allowed us to increase the working surface and organize additional storage.
4. Efficient use of space
The authors of the project used the available space as efficiently as possible: in the kitchen they even used the space above the refrigerator, and on the second “mezzanine” near the stairs there was a secluded place for a work desk.
5. The right place for the dining room
The designers placed the dining area in a cozy bay window overlooking the garden. If the weather permits, you can open the windows and get the full feeling of dining surrounded by nature.
6. Bedroom with access to the terrace
What could be better than falling asleep and waking up to a view of lush greenery? Or start the day by going out onto the terrace adjacent to the bedroom and breathing in the fresh air? An excellent cozy and functional solution for any country house.
7. Smart storage in the bathroom
The bathroom has many spacious cabinets and racks for towels, household chemicals and a variety of bath accessories. This allows you to store everything you need directly in the bathroom, as well as avoid cluttering other rooms with additional storage systems.
8. “Half-floor”
The house is two-story, but strictly speaking, in terms of layout, it is only one and a half floors: the second “half-floor” hangs over the first in the form of a balcony. There are master and guest bedrooms with attached bathrooms and a terrace.
9. “Family” guest bedroom
In the additional bedroom there is space for a single and double bed, this allows you to comfortably accommodate a family with a child. The guest room is decorated in a very homely way: with unobtrusive decor, a skylight and lamps with soft light.
10. Taking into account planning features
In the guest bathroom, the designers’ competent work with the space is especially obvious. To save space, a corner shower stall and a corner vanity unit were chosen. A large mirror visually enlarges the room, and a few decorative details add coziness.
