Prince Harry has dominated British headlines all week, issuing controversial statements and counterclaims in his ongoing lawsuit against AN.
However, the most interesting aspect isn’t just how the case will conclude — it’s also how this whole saga will affect his relationship with King Charles.
As is well known, in 2022 Prince Harry, along with a group of other high-profile figures (including singer Elton John and actress Elizabeth Hurley), filed a lawsuit against ANL. They accused the publication of “egregious invasions of privacy,” including:
-
Wiretapping phone calls;
-
Using private investigators to plant bugs in homes and cars;
-
Hacking voicemail;
-
Bribing hospital staff to obtain confidential health information;
-
Financial espionage.

The publisher has categorically denied all allegations.
Prince Harry’s numerous legal battles — both against the British press and the government (including his case to restore his security detail) — have come at a high cost. Not only financially, but also in terms of his relationship with his father.
Harry has repeatedly stated publicly that he wants to reconcile with his family. But the King has essentially made it clear that he cannot meet with his younger son while Harry is engaged in lawsuits against the government in courts over which he has ultimate jurisdiction. Buckingham Palace has signaled that the King will not see Harry while he is in the United Kingdom.

The Sussexes have not shied away from applying pressure on their royal relatives. Harry, for example, has said he “would like” his father to open the Invictus Games for wounded service members and veterans in Birmingham next year. He also mentioned that the Duchess of Sussex hopes to visit the UK for the first time in three years this summer to attend the Invictus event.
The pressure on Charles is clear: if, as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, he declines Harry’s public invitation, it could look bad. But if he attends, he would be yielding to his son’s emotional request.
Meanwhile, Prince William has taken a firm stance. He has cut off all contact with his brother and quietly focuses on his own work and family.
