The Prince of Wales had planned to visit Charing Cross Hospital in London on his own to support National Health Service staff during the Christmas holidays, a time when hospitals experience a massive influx of patients. However, at the last moment, his wife Kate Middleton joined him. Before the visit, she removed her famous wedding ring, which once belonged to Princess Diana. It is believed that jewelry with large stones can harbor bacteria, and Britain is currently facing a flu epidemic.
The royal couple arrived at the medical facility in West London, where they were greeted with smiles and excited whispers from the staff. The Princess chose a total burgundy look, wearing a wine-colored pantsuit paired with a small handbag. Prince William opted for a shirt and tie, a sweater, a blazer, and trousers.

Kate spoke with volunteers who work with patients undergoing chemotherapy. From them, Middleton learned that many relatives spend hours sitting by their loved ones’ bedsides. “I know what that’s like,” the Princess replied, as she is currently in remission after battling cancer.

William, meanwhile, spoke with leaders of charitable organizations and medical staff, discussing the role of philanthropy in the healthcare system. The Prince of Wales emphasized the importance of proper communication between hospital staff and patients. The heir to the throne also shared his and his wife’s experience working in the medical field and highlighted the value of teamwork. “I wrote about working in emergency services, and Kate wrote about our recent experience in healthcare. Today we reminded ourselves how important every member of the team is — doctors, nurses, patients, and the interaction between them,” William said.

The couple also visited a therapeutic gym and an arts room for neurorehabilitation patients. The medical facility is funded by the charitable organization NHS Charities Together. The hospital visit marked the royal couple’s first public engagement of 2026.
As they were leaving the hospital, they met other staff members who were hoping for an audience with the royal couple. “Incredible work is being done here. It’s extremely important because it has a significant impact on patients,” the wife of the heir to the British throne concluded.
Two years ago, Kate Middleton was diagnosed with cancer following abdominal surgery. She underwent chemotherapy at a specialized NHS oncology clinic in Sutton. In January of last year, the royal announced that she was in remission. William took his wife’s illness very hard, noting that the burden of the crown cannot compare to family hardships. “When it comes to work and things like that, I don’t feel too overwhelmed. But anything related to family really weighs heavily on me,” the royal representative said.
