Today it was reported that the bodies of two individuals were discovered inside the Los Angeles home of the director of the cult classic When Harry Met Sally. According to preliminary information, the ages of the deceased matched those of the filmmaker and his wife. Later, law enforcement officials confirmed that the victims were Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer. Identification of the bodies proved difficult due to a fire that had broken out inside the residence, significantly damaging the scene.
Authorities stated that both victims sustained multiple stab wounds. Investigators believe the couple may have been killed by their son, Nick, who has reportedly struggled with substance dependency for many years. As of now, his whereabouts remain unknown, and a search is ongoing.
The case has been assigned to detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Department and is being investigated as a double homicide. Following the discovery, the area surrounding the home was quickly secured, and a heavy police presence remains at the scene. Neighbors reported seeing numerous patrol vehicles and forensic teams working throughout the day. The victims’ daughter, Romy, lives directly across the street with her children and is said to be cooperating with authorities.
Several prominent figures from Hollywood reportedly visited the location after news of the tragedy spread. Larry David and Billy Crystal, stars of Reiner’s iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally, arrived at the scene separately. Witnesses claimed that Billy Crystal appeared deeply shaken and was seen leaving the house in tears.
Rob Reiner began his career in the film industry in the 1960s and went on to become one of Hollywood’s most respected directors. He earned widespread acclaim for directing beloved and critically praised films such as Stand by Me, A Few Good Men, Misery, and The Bucket List. In addition to his work behind the camera, Reiner also appeared on screen, including a notable role as Leonardo DiCaprio’s character’s father in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Over the course of his career, he received two Emmy Awards and numerous other honors.
Reiner had been married to photographer Michelle Singer since 1989. Together, they raised three children and were often described as a private family who largely stayed out of the public spotlight.
