Forever Together : The Kessler Sisters’ Incredible Life Story — Born and Passed on the Same Day!

Alice and Ellen Kessler—Germany’s beloved twin stars—spent their entire lives side by side, and in the end, fulfilled their shared wish to depart the world the same way they entered it: together. Their story is one of dazzling talent, elegant showmanship, and a bond so deep it became part of their legend.

Born in 1936 in the small town of Nerchau, Saxony, the sisters grew up inseparable. In 1952, determined to chase a bigger dream, they bravely escaped East Germany, stepping into a world that would soon embrace them. From humble revue stages, they rose with extraordinary speed, conquering Parisian cabarets, shimmering Las Vegas showrooms, and beloved television programs across Europe and the United States. Their flawless synchronicity, glamorous costumes, and famously long-legged choreography made them icons of the 1960s and ’70s, instantly recognizable wherever they performed.

Throughout their long career, the Kessler twins shared the spotlight with entertainment royalty—Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, Harry Belafonte, and many others. Yet despite international fame and glittering stages, their greatest partnership was always with each other. They lived together for decades in Grünwald near Munich, offering unwavering emotional support and remaining each other’s closest confidantes. In 2006, Nerchau honored its most famous daughters with honorary citizenship, celebrating not only their artistic legacy but their warmth, humility, and kindness.

Even near the end of their lives, the sisters’ spirit never dimmed. Just weeks before their passing, they appeared together at the premiere of Roncalli’s ARTistART show at Circus Krone—smiling, radiant, and hand in hand, just as they had been for nearly nine decades.

On November 17, 2025, Alice and Ellen chose assisted suicide, a carefully considered decision made to preserve their dignity and independence. Their final act was a reflection of the same unity that defined their whole existence: two sisters choosing the same path, side by side, one last time.

They will be laid to rest together in a single urn, placed next to their mother Elsa and their beloved poodle Yello—a touching and symbolic farewell for a pair who spent their entire lives intertwined.

The Kessler sisters leave behind more than memorable performances and shimmering costumes. They gift the world a story of courage, creativity, and devotion—proof that the brightest stars shine even brighter when they walk through life with love, loyalty, and an unbreakable bond. 💖✨
