The police had received a call about illegal street vending at the corner of the main street and rushed to the scene. But when they saw a harmless-looking elderly woman with a crate of vegetables, their determination wavered.
The woman stood beside neatly arranged tomatoes, carrots, and cucumbers, wearing a worn sweater and a faded skirt.
“Grandma, do you know that selling on the street is prohibited?” one officer asked calmly.
“I know, dear,” she sighed. “I just need money for my sick son’s medicine. There’s no one else to help him. I grew all these vegetables in my own garden. There’s nothing wrong here.”
