During our church wedding, my fiancé held up a “SAVE ME” sign behind his back as a joke 😢😱 — and I decided to teach him a lesson I’ll never regret.
The ceremony was unfolding perfectly: sunlight streamed through the stained glass, the priest recited prayers, and guests watched every move in hushed anticipation. I turned to my fiancé and spoke words I had held in my heart for a long time:
— You are the most important person to me, my greatest love, and I know you will never betray me.
Suddenly… the room erupted in laughter. Guests laughed as if we were in a comedy show, not a sacred ceremony. I was stunned. Why are they laughing? What’s so funny about my words?
I tried to focus, but curiosity got the better of me, and I glanced at the guests. Everyone was staring at my fiancé. My eyes followed theirs, and my heart sank. Behind his back, in front of all the guests, he held a giant sign: “SAVE ME.”
Time seemed to stop. The guests’ laughter, the priest’s shocked gaze — it all blurred together. I felt hurt and angry. Everyone must think I’m cruel, forcing him to marry me, I thought.
Then I did something I don’t regret at all 😢.
Calmly, without a word, I stepped forward, snatched the sign from his hands, and tore it into tiny pieces. The sound of ripping paper echoed louder than any words could in the silent church. He froze, and the laughter stopped.
— Are you mocking me? — I asked coldly, looking him straight in the eyes.
— It’s just a joke… — he mumbled awkwardly.
— A joke? At our wedding, in a church? What’s funny about this?
I turned to the priest.
— I’m sorry, but there will be no wedding.
A murmur swept through the room; some gasped, others looked down.
Then, gathering my dignity, I faced my “fiancé” again and said:
— Well, I saved you. You’re free.
I turned and walked slowly down the aisle. My veil brushed the pews, and behind me came the stunned whispers of the guests. Someone tried to speak, but I continued confidently, not stopping.
He wanted a spectacle — and he got one. Just not the one he expected.
