At least seven people were killed when a section of rock fell near tourist boats under a waterfall at Furnas Lake in southeastern Brazil.

Three more people went missing, and 32 were injured. Nine of the injured were reported to be in serious condition and taken to the hospital.

The tourists had been sightseeing near the waterfall on the lake when a massive rock slab suddenly broke off the canyon wall and crashed onto several boats, creating a huge wave across the water. The shocking moment was caught on video, which quickly spread across media outlets and social networks.

One motorboat reportedly sank, while others managed to escape. According to police, three more boats were damaged by falling rocks. The collapse occurred at around 11:00 a.m. local time.

Rescue teams told reporters that heavy rains in the state of Minas Gerais in the two weeks prior had contributed to the rockslide, Reuters reported.

Furnas Lake, created in 1958 during the construction of a hydroelectric power plant, is a popular tourist attraction located about 420 km north of São Paulo.
