Hunter Schafer shared her painful experience of gender transition in the series Euphoria. Hunter is not afraid to speak publicly about her difficult journey of self-awareness and self-acceptance.
She was born in 1998 into a pastor’s family, but despite this, her parents always tried to listen to their child’s wishes. For example, at just 2 years old, out of all the superheroes, Hunter chose Catwoman. And on her 5th birthday, she wore her sister’s dress.

Later, in high school, Hunter opted for feminine hairstyles, though she still hadn’t fully understood who she was.
Hunter’s mother recalls those years as very challenging—both for the child and for the parents, who had to face the reality of their son’s decision.

“I think Hunter was truly struggling inside, and the anxiety showed on the outside. I remember there were a lot of tears. We came to the realization that we would have to let go of the child we thought we had.”

As a boy, Hunter asked his parents to let him wear heels. And although her father admitted that inside he was screaming, “No, no, no,” he still allowed his son to be who he wanted to be.
At 16, Hunter began seeing a therapist to start her transition into womanhood. She graduated high school already as Hunter Schafer, a young woman.
