Fashion faux pas? Meghan Markle shares the royal rule she never liked

It’s well known that certain protocols and unwritten rules strictly govern the wardrobes of the royal family — and Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry who still goes by the title Duchess of Sussex, admitted that there was one rule she always struggled with.

Meghan revealed that she felt “inauthentic” and unlike herself whenever she was required to wear nude stockings during public appearances as a working royal. “I constantly had to wear nude tights… it just didn’t feel like me. It felt a bit inauthentic,” she explained.

She added that because she couldn’t dress the way she wanted, she also felt less like herself in other aspects of her royal role. “This is an example of when you can dress how you like, you can speak your truth, and you can show up in a space really organically and authentically — it means feeling comfortable in your own skin,” Meghan said.

Since Meghan and Prince Harry stepped down from their roles as working royals and moved with their family to the U.S., her style has completely transformed. Her best everyday looks now reflect the effortless elegance of a California girl — with mature, refined cuts and fabrics.
