I came home after a long, exhausting day at work. I was completely worn out — all I wanted was to take off my shoes, flop down on the couch, and maybe even take a quick nap. As I approached the door, I automatically reached for my keys… and then I noticed something strange.
There was a small coin stuck in the lock. Tiny, almost unnoticeable, but definitely not supposed to be there. I live alone, and I certainly didn’t leave it there.
At first, I thought it was just a coincidence or some silly prank, but then a chill ran through me — what if it wasn’t accidental?
I quickly pulled my hand away from the door handle and did what instinct told me — I called the police. While I waited, I frantically searched for information. And I found out something terrifying… 😱😱 If you notice something similar, be careful! 😲

📌 It turns out this is an old scam used by thieves and burglars.
They insert a coin (or a thin piece of plastic) between the door and the frame — usually near the lock.
The idea is simple: if someone is home, they’ll open and close the door, causing the coin to fall out. But if the coin stays put for several days — it means no one is there, and the place can be robbed.
It’s a quiet, almost invisible way for thieves to check if someone has gone on vacation or a business trip. This is how they pick their “targets.”
⚠️ How to protect yourself:
-
Always check your locks and door crevices, even if you live in a safe neighborhood.
-
If you’re going away for a long time, ask neighbors to keep an eye on your home.
-
Install security cameras or at least a fake alarm system.
-
Pay attention to small details by your door — papers, coins, strange marks.

I still don’t know if someone really planned to rob my apartment… but since then, I’ve become much more vigilant. And I suggest you do the same.
Check your locks. Today.
