This guy once weighed over 500 kg and was the heaviest man in the world 😲 By the age of 20, he could no longer walk due to his excess weight, and by 30, he started struggling to breathe 😧
That’s when he realized he couldn’t continue living like that and decided to lose weight 😢 First, he shed 170 kg, then another 130 kg, and he’s still losing weight 😲 Now, he can walk and breathe on his own 💖
Once weighing nearly 600 kilograms, his body became a prison, and his bed was the only world he knew.
Juan Pedro Franco, a Mexican man with kind eyes and a gentle voice, was long known as the heaviest person on the planet. But behind that headline was a story of pain, hope, and incredible strength.

Juan was born healthy but began gaining weight rapidly from an early age. As a teenager, he suffered a severe injury and was confined to bed.
That marked the start of his rapid descent into extreme obesity. By 20, he couldn’t walk; by 30, he was barely able to breathe.
He lived in isolation, fully dependent on his mother’s care. His heart, liver, and joints all suffered. Doctors gave little hope. But inside Juan, a faint yet persistent flame of will to live still burned.

In 2016, his story reached the media and caught the attention of leading bariatric surgeons in Mexico.
A team led by Dr. José Castro prepared him for months with the help of doctors, dietitians, and physiotherapists. He lost over 170 kilograms before his body was ready for surgery.

Juan Pedro underwent a sleeve gastrectomy — a stomach-reducing operation. This was only the first step. Over the following years, he had several more procedures and continued losing weight.
He shed over 330 kilograms and, for the first time in many years, was able to stand and take his first steps.
Today, Juan is in his forties and lives in León, Mexico. He is no longer bedridden. He walks, talks, smiles. He pursues music, dreams of traveling, and helps others by sharing his story.
