George Lazenby, famed for his sole role as James Bond in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, was recently spotted in Los Angeles looking frail and using a walker. The 85-year-old was accompanied by a nursing aide but still managed to greet onlookers with a warm smile. This sighting comes after his ex-wife, former Wimbledon champion Pam Shriver, publicly shared that Lazenby is battling dementia—a diagnosis that has deeply affected both his health and their relationship.
Pam, 63, opened up in a moving essay for The Telegraph about their journey from a painful 2011 divorce to reconciliation. When George narrowly escaped the Los Angeles wildfires in early 2025, Pam was moved to reconnect and has since been regularly supporting him through this difficult phase of his life.

Though dementia has impacted his short-term memory, Pam says George remains himself—a gentler version of the spirited man she once knew. They spend time walking and reminiscing, with George often recalling vivid stories from his youth and early career.

Lazenby’s brief but iconic portrayal of Bond left a lasting imprint on the franchise. Despite lacking prior acting experience, his bold audition—complete with a tailored suit and Rolex—won him the role. While On Her Majesty’s Secret Service initially met mixed reviews, it has since gained cult status. Lazenby famously declined a lucrative seven-film contract, citing discomfort with fame and feeling overshadowed by Sean Connery.
Reflecting on his career, he once said, “I did the best I could,” revealing both humility and the poignant introspection of a man now confronting the final chapter of his life.
