Jade Rick Verdillo and Jamaica Aguilar, a couple from the Philippines, tied the knot on July 22 in the historic Barasoain Church in Malolos City, Bulacan Province — even though the venue was flooded. Torrential monsoon rains, intensified by Typhoon Wipha, caused severe flooding that brought water levels inside the church up to knee height.

Despite the rising waters, the couple refused to back down, turning what could have been a disaster into a powerful symbol of love and resilience. The wedding ceremony went ahead, and the bad weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of the newlyweds or their guests.

The bride walked down the aisle with the train of her gown floating behind her, while the groom, standing knee-deep in water and dressed in the traditional Barong Tagalog, awaited his bride with a smile.
Wedding photos show barefoot, soaked guests who braved the flood to celebrate the couple’s big day.
“We chose this date because it’s already a sacrifice in itself,” Jade and Jamaica shared. “But there would be even greater sacrifices if we didn’t go through with it today.”
