John Dornellas, a fisherman in Alaska, was calmly observing a group of majestic orcas gliding through the water. Suddenly, he noticed one of the orcas veering toward his boat, chasing a frantic otter desperately trying to escape.
The otter spotted the boat and made a beeline for it, seeking safety from its pursuer. At one point, John lost sight of the otter as the orca dove underwater. Then, miraculously, the otter leapt onto the back of John’s boat just in time, narrowly escaping the orca’s grasp.
After a short while, the otter returned to the ocean, believing the danger had passed. But the orca continued to circle nearby, prompting the otter to quickly return to the boat and take refuge there. Clearly exhausted from the chase, the otter stretched out on the boat’s main deck.
Knowing he had to continue fishing, John set sail with the otter still aboard. After a few minutes, sensing safety, the otter jumped back into the water and swam off into freedom—an incredible escape witnessed firsthand.
