While Stephen was incarcerated, he took part in an innovative program called New Leash of Life, designed to pair stray dogs with prisoners to help both rehabilitate and support each other.
Stephen was matched with a puppy named Pavlov. They trained together for several months, and eventually, Pavlov recognized Stephen. The two formed an inseparable bond, with Pavlov having such a positive impact on Stephen that it contributed to his early release from prison.

After getting out, Stephen wanted to keep Pavlov, but without a place to live initially, he made the difficult decision to return Pavlov to the program so the dog could find a loving home.
That’s when Marina saw Pavlov and instantly fell in love. She adopted him and gave him the permanent, caring home he deserved.
Stephen’s life improved after his release—he started working in animal control. When Marina learned about Pavlov’s involvement in the program, she decided to find Stephen.

Although they exchanged messages on Facebook, they never planned to meet in person. Marina arranged a surprise reunion by bringing Pavlov to see Stephen.
The heartwarming moment was captured on video: Pavlov clearly remembered Stephen, and Stephen was visibly moved as they played together.
The story ended joyfully, with Marina inviting Stephen to remain involved in Pavlov’s life and even offering him the chance to dog-sit anytime.
