In Southern California, a dog showed no fear when a bear broke into its home. The pooch clearly wasn’t expecting such boldness and began barking fiercely at the massive intruder. Surveillance footage captured the moment a huge bear entered the house. The family’s four-legged member, a 16-year-old dog named Doodle, not only dodged a swipe from the bear’s claws but also bravely barked at it. Though eventually, Doodle did run away.
The dog’s owner, Zoë Cadman, said the bear apparently wandered in and out of her house over a 20-minute period — all while she slept. She only woke up when she noticed a light on… it turns out the bear had opened the refrigerator. Thankfully, Doodle was unharmed during the encounter, and the bear eventually left the house on its own.
Interestingly, bears breaking into California homes isn’t as rare as one might think. Due to the proximity of residential areas to forests and mountains, wild animals often venture into people’s yards searching for food. They’re especially active in the lead-up to hibernation or during droughts when natural food sources are scarce. Locals have gotten used to these unexpected “guests” and many now install special locks on trash bins and refrigerators to protect their homes from unwanted visitors.
