“I Stick to Playing Real Men”! Why Jason Statham Consistently Turns Down Superhero Roles

Famed British actor Jason Statham — known for action-packed hits like The Transporter, The Mechanic, and Wrath of Man — has once again made it clear: he has no intention of joining the superhero ranks of Marvel or DC. “All those masks, special effects, and flying above the clouds — that’s for someone else,” the actor stated. Clearly, his superpowers lie in charisma, fists, and taking down ten guys without a scratch.

Statham is no stranger to superhero role offers — and he turns them down consistently. His stance is a firm and unwavering “no.” He’s been vocal about his opinion on the genre more than once.

“I like playing real men. People who can fight, survive, and push their limits without superpowers or suits. I’m drawn to roles that rely on raw physicality, personality, and real danger — not green screens and CGI,” Statham explained.

According to him, while superhero movies enjoy massive popularity, they rely too heavily on digital effects and unrealistic scenarios — which goes against his values as an actor. He also expressed no desire to join a franchise that controls everything from a character’s appearance to long-term contract commitments.

This isn’t the first time Statham has thrown shade at the comic-book genre. In a previous interview, he quipped, “Anyone — even a supermarket cashier — can be a superhero with the help of a green screen.”

And while fans continue to fantasize about seeing Statham in a cape or wielding supernatural powers, he’s made his point crystal clear: if he’s saving someone, it’ll be in a T-shirt, with a gun in hand and a killer one-liner — no cape, no helmet, no CGI required.
