Meghan Markleb Responds to Twerking Criticism in the Maternity Ward: “I Live Life My Way”

Prince Harry’s wife revealed a fun and unexpected moment from the maternity ward just before their daughter was born in 2021. Meghan Markle shared that both of her children — 6-year-old Archie and 4-year-old Lilibet — arrived a week past their due dates. To help induce labor, she ate spicy food, stayed active, and even tried acupuncture. Once at the hospital, the former American actress decided to dance — specifically, twerk — in an effort to kickstart contractions, and Prince Harry happily joined in to support her.

Meghan posted the lighthearted video on Lilibet’s birthday, and it quickly went viral. While many found it amusing, others criticized the Duchess of Sussex for sharing such a private moment publicly. However, Meghan was quick to respond to the backlash. “You have to be real,” she told Aspire podcast host Emma Grede. “Did you see my ‘Baby Mama’ dance?” Emma replied, “Yes, I did — and secretly cheered for you. I want to see that happiness, that honesty, and I really don’t care what others think.”

Meghan added, “That wasn’t yesterday — it was four years ago. So it’s also a great reminder that, despite all the noise and everything people say or do, there’s still a real life. A true, joyful life happening behind the scenes.”

While living at the palace, the Suits star wasn’t allowed to manage her own social media. But after stepping away from royal duties, she’s embraced the freedom to share her life online once again. “I’m just grateful that now, being back on social media, I have a space to share things on my terms,” she said.

Amid the wave of criticism over the video, Meghan also received support. Some fans called it a sweet family moment and saw no harm in it. Christopher Bouzy, a friend of the former royal, publicly defended her. The 47-year-old American entrepreneur slammed the online harassment Meghan faced and rebuked conspiracy theorists who questioned the legitimacy of her pregnancy. “Imagine, for just a moment, what it’s like when the happiest and most vulnerable moments of your life are turned into weapons of hate,” Bouzy said.
