My neighbor’s a real handyman — the kind of guy who can fix just about anything around the house. His wife often jokes that they never get new appliances because he keeps reviving the old ones.
The other day, as I was walking past his yard, something strange caught my eye: the top of an old fridge was sticking out of the ground. I stopped in my tracks, completely puzzled. Who buries a refrigerator in their backyard?
Driven by curiosity, I walked over and asked him about it. He just smiled and said, “Take a closer look.”
“This,” he said proudly, “is my new root cellar.”
Turns out, he’d buried the old fridge and left just the top exposed. Inside, he now stores apples and other produce. The soil keeps everything cool year-round — a DIY cold storage solution!
I was seriously impressed by his creativity. Who knew a broken fridge could turn into a mini underground pantry? It definitely made me look at old appliances differently. Maybe it’s time I repurpose some of my own “junk,” too.
What do you think — genius or just plain weird? 😄🧊🌱
