Brazilian Woman “Marries” Rag Doll Made by Her Mother — Now Claims They’ve Had a Baby Together
KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — In an unusual turn of events, a 37-year-old Brazilian woman has stunned the public by marrying a rag doll crafted by her mother — and now says they’ve welcomed a baby into their lives.
Meirivone Rocha Moraes says her love story began when her mother, hoping to ease her loneliness, sewed the doll — whom she later named Marcelo — after hearing her complain about not having a dance partner or romantic companion.
According to Moraes, it was love at first sight. Their bond quickly blossomed into romance, culminating in a full-blown wedding ceremony attended by 250 guests. Describing her married life, Moraes says it’s everything she ever wanted — despite Marcelo being “a little lazy.”

“He came into my life and gave it meaning,” she said, recalling how she used to attend social dances feeling incomplete. “Now I have the man of my dreams.”
Their love story didn’t stop at the altar. On May 21, Moraes announced the arrival of their “son,” Marcelinho, an event she broadcast live to an online audience of 200 people.
Moraes defends her unconventional relationship fiercely. “It upsets me when people call this fake,” she said. “I was raised to be honest and kind. This is real to me.”

Following the wedding, the couple honeymooned in Rio de Janeiro, and Moraes insists that Marcelo is the ideal husband — loyal, supportive, and deeply understanding.
“He doesn’t argue with me. He listens. He’s the kind of man every woman dreams of.”
