The Massey Wildbase animal hospital recently welcomed a sweet little owl known as a morepork. He was suffering from a mild skin infection that, while not serious, caused him quite a bit of discomfort. Thankfully, the condition was easily treatable.

The remedy? A simple bath using chlorhexidine. But for the tiny owl, it was anything but simple—it was a thoroughly unpleasant experience! The poor bird clearly didn’t enjoy being wet, and the water completely transformed his appearance. Once fluffy and adorable, he now looked oddly spooky and comically ruffled. Watching his reaction to his drenched reflection was both hilarious and heartwarming.

After the bath, the little morepork was gently dried with a towel and quickly regained his soft, fluffy charm. With the treatment complete, he was moved to the clinic’s aviary, where several other recovering moreporks were also resting.

It’s truly wonderful to know that something as simple as a bath was enough to help this sweet owl heal. Soon, he’ll be healthy and ready to return to the wild where he belongs. 🦉💦🌿
