Furry Little Heroes: How These Foster Kittens Are Easing a Dog’s Heartache

When Rosemarie T. adopted Daisy, a pit bull mix from NYC’s Animal Care Centers, she never imagined how profoundly the dog’s life—and her own—would change.

At first, Daisy seemed to settle in just fine. She appeared happy in her New York apartment. But only weeks later, Rosemarie came home to a heartbreaking sight: Daisy trembling on the floor in fear.

It became clear that something had frightened Daisy deeply. A visit to the vet confirmed she was suffering from separation anxiety. Though medication helped calm her temporarily, it didn’t address her deep sense of loneliness.

“She started dreading being left alone,” Rosemarie told People. “She’d try to block the door after our morning walks, like she was scared I wouldn’t return.”

Wanting a better solution for her beloved companion, Rosemarie turned to something familiar—fostering kittens. As a long-time ASPCA volunteer, she knew Daisy had shown a special affection for the young animals in the past.

“She always loved being a mama to them,” Rosemarie recalled.

So when the opportunity arose to foster two tiny one-month-old kittens named Hummus and Honey, she didn’t hesitate. After keeping the kittens in a separate space to help them adjust, Rosemarie gradually introduced them to Daisy.

The bond was instant and heart-melting.

“Within just two days, the kittens were cuddling with Daisy, letting her groom them and even climbing all over her,” Rosemarie said.

Seeing the blossoming relationship, Rosemarie made a life-changing decision—she officially adopted the kittens, renaming them Tulip and Sparkle.

“I adopted them because the way they connected with Daisy was just magical,” she explained.

Since then, Daisy’s anxiety has dramatically improved. With her feline siblings by her side, she no longer panics when Rosemarie leaves.

Tulip, in particular, seems to sense Daisy’s unease. “Before I leave the apartment, Tulip lies down on Daisy’s bed—and Daisy joins her,” Rosemarie said. “It’s like Tulip knows exactly what she needs.”

What started as a sad story of fear and isolation has turned into one of comfort, love, and healing. Thanks to two tiny kittens, Daisy now lives each day with joy—and her furry family by her side.
