Fifteen-year-old Mitchell Miner recently took part in the dairy cattle show at the Iowa State Fair with his cow, Audri. Despite their dedication and hard work, they placed fifth out of seven competitors. Both were exhausted afterward. When Mitchell’s father entered the room, he found them both dozing off and captured the moment with a photo. The picture, captioned “Our son Mitchell and his heifer after yesterday’s show,” quickly went viral, gathering over 15,000 likes by the next day.

Mitchell’s mother, Laura, shared with the Des Moines Register that spending quality time with children naturally leads to good results. Both she and her husband grew up on farms, and even though their family now lives elsewhere, they want their kids to stay connected to their farming roots. To keep the farm experience alive, the family borrows animals during the summer.
Mitchell’s father, Jeremy Miner, said, “We’ve learned so much from the farm. These are the values we grew up with, and we try our best to pass them on.” Once the events in September conclude, Audri, the sleepy cow, will return to the dairy farm.
