Michael Douglas and his former wife, Diandra Luker, were married for 18 years before calling it quits. Their separation turned out to be one of the most expensive divorces in Hollywood history, with Douglas ordered to pay his ex-wife a staggering $45 million.
The 79-year-old Hollywood icon is best known for his roles in legendary films like Fatal Attraction and Wall Street, which helped cement his status as one of the most recognizable actors in the industry.
He’s a two-time Academy Award winner — earning one Oscar for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and another for his role in Wall Street.
Today, Douglas is married to another Oscar winner, 59-year-old Catherine Zeta-Jones. Together, they have two children: Dylan, 23, and Carys, 21.
But his marriage to Zeta-Jones wasn’t his first. His previous union cost him a small fortune.
Douglas had just achieved major success with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest when he married Diandra Luker in 1977. A year later, they welcomed their son, Cameron Douglas.
According to reports, Michael had to pay Diandra $45 million when they divorced in 2000. She also received their shared estate in Santa Barbara, California.
But that wasn’t the end of it. In 2011, Diandra took Michael back to court to demand even more money. She claimed she was entitled to half the profits from the Wall Street sequel, arguing that the original film was made during their marriage.
Her lawsuit sparked major backlash, especially since it came just two months after Michael was diagnosed with cancer. Diandra was criticized for going after a man battling a serious illness.
Responding to the outrage, Diandra defended herself:
“Michael didn’t know he was sick, I didn’t know he was sick, and the gods didn’t know he was sick,” she said.
“I don’t chase sick people for things that don’t belong to me.”
In the end, Diandra lost the case and didn’t receive any additional money from her ex-husband.
Still, she doesn’t seem to be struggling financially. Until 2019, she lived in luxury on the Spanish island of Mallorca.
Her villa, “S’Estaca,” which she once shared with Michael Douglas, boasts 10 bedrooms, a loft, two guest cottages, terraces, a swimming pool, a wine cellar, and private sea access — all nestled on a 250-acre estate overlooking the Mediterranean.
In 2019, Douglas bought out her share of the property. Since then, Diandra appears to have relocated to Ibiza, where she now spends much of her time and frequently posts photos on social media.
Living with her are her 20-year-old twin sons, Hudson and Hawk — born via surrogate with ex-partner Zachary Hampton Bacon III — and her daughter Imara de Morrell Douglas, whom she adopted from Russia in 2005.
According to the New York Post, Diandra also sold her Manhattan apartment in 2022 for an impressive $17 million.
