Four-year-old Marnie Moore from Lancashire suddenly collapsed after sipping a slushy at a birthday party. Her mother, Kim Moore, recounted how Marnie quickly became drowsy before losing consciousness. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors found she had dangerously low blood sugar and remained unresponsive for 25 minutes.
Medical staff later suspected glycerol toxicity—a substance added to slushies for texture—as the cause. Marnie recovered after spending three days in the hospital.
Shockingly, her case is not unique. At least 21 children have experienced similar reactions linked to slushy drinks containing glycerol. Health officials are now advising that children under 8 should avoid these beverages altogether.
“I’ll never let her have one again,” Kim warned. “It’s just not worth the risk.”
