What Will It Be? Venice Residents Express Anger Over Jeff Bezos’ Wedding Plans

Billionaire Jeff Bezos is set to marry his fiancée Lauren Sanchez after sending her to space. The couple, who got engaged in 2023, have yet to tie the knot. The much-anticipated event is expected to take place in Venice, sparking outrage among local residents.

Details of the wedding have recently surfaced online. The event is reportedly scheduled between June 24 and June 26, with Bezos allegedly booking nearly every hotel, restaurant, gondola, and water taxi in the city for those dates. Locals are unhappy with these plans. Additionally, it’s rumored that the ceremony, with 200 guests, will take place aboard Bezos’ $500 million superyacht, Koru, in the Venetian Lagoon. However, this has raised concerns about the impact on the city’s architecture, as it isn’t accustomed to accommodating such large vessels.

So far, the couple has not commented on the event. However, the Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, addressed the situation, stating that there has been much speculation surrounding the wedding and reassured locals. “We are working together with the organizers to ensure the event is completely respectful of the city’s fragility and uniqueness. Our top priority is to ensure the smooth functioning of the city for everyone,” said Brugnaro.

The mayor also noted that Venice is accustomed to hosting grand events without significant disruptions. Recently, the city has been struggling with overtourism, and last year introduced an additional tourist tax.
