Fans of the late actor Gene Hackman, who passed away earlier last month, were shocked by the news that his body has yet to be claimed by his family. The remains of Gene, as well as those of his wife Betsy Arakawa, are still at the New Mexico Office of the Medical Examiner.
The reason his family has not yet retrieved and buried Hackman’s body is unknown. Although some tests, including a toxicology examination, are still pending, they are being conducted on tissue samples already taken. Therefore, there are currently no reasons preventing the burial. One source suggested that the family might be unable to gather money for a proper funeral. However, considering Gene’s estate was worth $80 million, which will now go to his three grown children, this version seems unlikely. It almost seems as though the actor’s heirs are indifferent to what happens to his remains.
For reference, 95-year-old Gene and 62-year-old Betsy were found dead in their home in New Mexico. Both had died long before their bodies were discovered. It is believed that the actor died from a cardiovascular disease, while his wife passed away from a rat-borne infection.
