Each year, the city of Mumbai, India, faces a sobering reality as the monsoon season arrives: the ocean returns the trash that has been carelessly discarded by people. Tons of garbage, swept into the sea, are washed back onto the shore.
Massive heaps of plastic blanket the beaches, as if the ocean is giving humanity a harsh reminder of its thoughtless waste. Municipal workers brave relentless rain, using bulldozers, trucks, and cleanup crews to collect the trash and haul it to landfills.
This season alone, the tides brought in an alarming 427 tons of garbage. While it’s expected in a city of nearly 19 million people, the scale is still shocking.
A simple request: don’t throw trash in the water or leave it on the shore. Whether big or small, litter has no place in nature. Let’s end this damaging cycle.
